With the eagerly anticipated release of the Switch 2 on the horizon, gamers have been eagerly awaiting the return of the iconic kart racing series, Mario Kart World. However, it seems that the gaming world will have a different racer to enjoy first, as SEGA's Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch/Switch 2, and PC on September 25, 2023.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been developed with the goal of creating the best Sonic racing title, regardless of the release of Mario Kart World. This goal was not influenced by the development of its competitor, as confirmed by Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka.

Ali Jones, a reviewer from a prominent publication, has had the opportunity to play Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and found it to be a satisfactory replacement for Mario Kart World. The game innovates on the series formula with a fluidity between maps, with portals to other maps replacing the open-world sections that are a gimmick in Mario Kart World.

The development of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was undertaken by SEGA, who were somewhat expecting a new Mario Kart to be released with the Switch 2. However, it appears that Nintendo has delayed the release of the Switch 2 due to first-party developers requesting more time to perfect games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

It has been eight years since Mario Kart 8 came out in 2014, and six years since Team Sonic Racing launched in 2019. With the perceived void in the market left by the delay of Mario Kart World, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is filling a gap and providing fans with a new racing experience.

When Nintendo releases new hardware, it's common for them to release a new karting title. However, it's clear that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds stands on its own merits and offers a unique and exciting racing experience that fans of the Sonic series will not want to miss. So, mark your calendars for September 25, 2023, and get ready to race through the world of Sonic like never before!
